The award-winning not-for-profit food bank is run by volunteers and caters to all vegan-compatible dietary requirements. Pia and Nathaniel, who run the charity organization, discovered there was a real need for food banks that were able to cater nutritional yet delicious food for everyone no matter their restrictive diet in terms of not wanting to consume animal products or meat.

Their weekly food parcel service is entirely volunteer-led and relies 100% on donations made by local, kind-hearted people and small local businesses. Donations include in-date food and hygiene products such as deodorant, soaps, toothpaste, and more. The services offered by the Worthing Vegan Food Bank are mostly used to support people facing short-term difficulties.  All food parcels are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Not wanting anyone to be left out and go hungry, they even cater to specific dietary intolerances and allergies such as gluten or nuts.

The organization was only founded 1 year ago and is responsible for keeping so many families and individuals fed and supported in these tough times. After launching in March of 2020, the charity has been volunteer-led from the onset. Having businesses and individuals alike donating all kinds of food, including fresh produce to their initial drop-in, donate and claim boxes across Worthing town. Since then, just like the rest of the nation, Worthing has been through several lockdowns.

This caused the Founders of the Vegan Food Bank to move and operate their main hub out of their own private residency for over half of the year. Despite the challenges and struggles that this disruption naturally brought on, they took their efforts even further. By launching a donation-based parcel-delivery service; an anti-food-waste takeaway scheme and regular free ‘Food on the Table’ handout events.

Outside of lockdown restrictions, the charitable organization regularly hosts their quickly-becoming-famous, ‘Food on the Table’ events where they set up tables upon tables of Vegan Food. Which includes fully cooked meals as well as sandwiches and snacks. These events are held in easy-to-reach locations across Worthing. Whilst these events are predominantly set for the homeless community, no one is excluded, and the events are open to anyone and everyone who is in need of a meal to grab and enjoy.
